Cheek bone fractures

Zygomatic bone or cheek bone forms the lateral part of the face and mainly contributes  to the prominence of the cheek. Zygomaticfracture is often the result of facial trauma such as interpersonal violence or altercationsfalls  and automobile accidents. Symptoms for these type of fractures  include flattening of the face, reduced opening of the jaw and reddishness of the lateral aspect of eyes on the involved side. Treatment of these fractures is needed for both cosmetic and functional reasons. Functional reasons include
reduced mouth opening caused due to obstruction of the fractured zygomatic bone over the lower jaw. Cosmetic reasons are reduced prominence of cheek on the fractured side compared with the normal side. These fractures can be treated by surgeries done within the mouth and also over the temple area, the resulting scar over the temple area is concealed within the hairline. Thus surgeries done for the treatment of cheek bone fractures address the functional and cosmetic problems faced by the patients. The results obtained with these surgeries are stable and lifelong.
