Lip revision surgery

Patients who have had a primary cleft lip correction surgeries, frequently complain of scars on their upper lip. These form the so-called secondary cleft surgeries. A lot of these type of cases are done at Richardson's dental and craniofacial centre by Dr.Sunil Richardson.

Suresh Gopi, a 24-year-old man had a bilateral cleft lip which was repaired at the age of three months at a nearby hospital. He came to us now with a prominent scar on the lip and mal-alignment of the red and white lines of the lip.

Lip revision surgery was done for him under general anesthesia. The excessive scar tissue was excised and the symmetry of the lips was established. The lip shape that is more natural was created. The uniformity of the thickness of the lip was also achieved. Fine stitches were used to suture the incision lines so that no scar is formed again.

Irrespective of the age at which primary cleft lip or palate surgery was done for these patients, they can still be revised and can be made to look more pleasing by the skilled oral & maxillofacial surgeons.

Richardsons dental and craniofacial Hospital provides all treatment facilities with experienced surgeons.  Located at Nagercoil, Tamilnadu, India, just 70 kms distance from Trivandrum (Thiruvananthapuram), Kerala.
