Cleft Rhinoplasty

Patients with cleft lip and palate suffer from deformities of the nasal structures as well.
Lijo is one such patient who was successfully treated for his cleft nasal deformity last week. He came to us with a complaint that his nose is deformed and he wants it to be corrected. He was examined by the cleft team at RichardsonsDental and Craniofacial Hospital- Dr.Sunil Richardson, head surgeon assisted by two fellows, Dr. Shreya Krishna and Dr. Avi Bansal. He was found to have the typical traits of a cleft nose:
  • downturned nasal tip
  • distorted nostrils of the cleft side
  •  unequal nasal bases of both sides
  •  depressed nasal rim

He was explained about the rhinoplasty procedure and was taken up for surgery the same week. Artificial bio-inert material was inserted into the nose in the nasal septal region to straighten the tip and lengthen his columella. Cartilage reshaping and trimming was done to correct the alar positions. The procedure took about 90 minutes and a nasal pack was placed which was removed on the fourth day. He was discharged after that.

Lijo is very happy with the results and feels a huge change in his overall facial appearance.
