What was done for this young man? 

Dr. Sunil Richardson performed a upper lip revision to improve the shape and fullness of the lip, to get correct match on the white roll and to remove scar. 

Why was this needed? 

This boy was operated in a hospital about 250 kms away 14 years ago. For what ever reason, he was left with this kind of a lip, both functionally and aesthetically wanting.

What was his original problem?

He was born with cleft lip and palate.

Does he need any other secondary or redo surgery? 

Yes. His speech is not intelligible now and has a lot of nasality to it. Our speech pathologist has graded it as 5 on a 1 to 10 scale. Dr. Sunil Richardson is planning a modified speech surgery after a few months, after which he will further require aggressive speech therapy for 8 to 12 weeks. 

What is the treatment time? 

The surgery was daycare, meaning he came in the morning and left the same evening. He would come back on day 5 for suture removal. So, technically he could get back to school in one week. Of course, swelling will be there for two to three weeks. He would only need to apply some scar cream.

What about the results as he grows? 

The results are permanent and he will not need any more surgery on the lip. Having said that, some patients might need to get moustache transplants incase there is an area where hair would not grow and if the patient desires to sport one.
