WHAT IS CHIN AUGMENTATION..??

Chin augmentation is the surgical remolding of the shape and contour of the chin. There are various methods of doing chin augmentation. This can be done by simply reshaping the bone itself or by placing an implant. Chin augmentation is basically a cosmetic surgery to enhance the facial features, thereby achieving a better facial profile and jawline.

COSMETIC SURGERIES PERFORMED IN OUR HOSPITAL

PATIENT COMPLAINING FOR SHORT CHIN AND PROTRUDING UPPER JAW.

An A 24-year-old female patient from Kanyakumari, Tamilnadu walked into the hospital with the chief complaint of protruding upper teeth and jaw. She had already undergone orthodontic treatment (braces) twice which was indeed a failure. This facial asymmetric problem gradually lowered her self confidence level to face the community. It was very unaesthetic for her.

DIAGNOSIS, TREATMENT PLANNING OF SEVERE FACIAL DEFORMITY.

After a complete skeletal and dental examination by Dr. Sunil Richardson, our chief surgeon specialized in orthognathic and cosmetic facial surgery. It was noted that she had protruding upper jaw and small lower jaw with an incomplete lip closure which leads to this facial deformity.  Hence the surgeon planned for Lefort I maxillary impaction to push the protruding upper jaw backward and vertical and horizontal advancement genioplasty to enhance the small lower jaw.

SURGICAL CORRECTION OF FACIAL DEFORMITY DUE TO SMALL CHIN

The entire surgical procedure was explained to the patient and her parents towards which they signed the consent for the same. Lefort, I osteotomy was done followed by the maxillary incision placed from premolar to premolar. Impaction of approximately 15mm was done and the down fractured maxilla (upper jaw) was secured using titanium mesh and plates, incision closed using resorbable sutures. Mandibular incisions placed, osteotomy cuts made at the ramus region and brought the mandible forward horizontally. Then we made genioplasty cuts to augment the chin horizontally and advancing it vertically. The closure was done using resorbable sutures.

Post operatively patient recovered well. The patient and her parents were completely happy after the surgical correction.
