What are the scars?

Scars are visible marks on the surface of the skin; it is the sequel of any injury or surgery. Development of the scar is unpredictable it is commonly seen after a poorly healed wound and at times a well-healed wound can also leave a scar on the surface.
Scars are certain….!!!
Unlike other parts of the body scars on the face cannot be hidden. Scars appear in various forms depending on the type of injury, the intensity of injury, surface, consistency, etc. different types of injury form different scars like some scars present as discoloration or mild surface irregularity as a result of sun exposure, allergies, acne or any insect bites. Some marked scars are a result of deep cut injuries or surgeries. And some severe scars which look like stretched surrounding skin and structures are the result of burn injuries. A few names are explained below:
  • Discoloration or surface irregularities- they present as mild to moderate pigmentation on the skin or maybe as rugged surfaces. These can be a result of sun exposure, allergic reactions, acne or abrasions.
  • Hypertrophic scars- visible, elevated, red-colored surface.
  • Keloid- thick, hard, smooth surface. The color of the growth varies from pink to bluish-black. The surface will be very shiny and smooth. These are seen as a result of surgical wounds or deep cut injuries.
  • Contractures- they restrict the movement of the surface as during the healing process it holds the surrounding skin and the underlying structures. This is commonly seen in joints and burn injuries.

What is Scar Revision Surgery?

Scar revision surgeries are surgeries performed to minimize the appearance of the scar. The procedure helps to blend the color and texture to the surrounding skin making the visibility of the scar equal to zero. Plastic surgeon subtly removes the scarred tissue and finely sutures to blend the surface to the normal skin. This procedure has a greater success rate compared to any other scar treatment. The scar revision surgeries performed at Richardson’s hospital have been 100% successful. We make sure patients have achieved an absolute satisfactory result.

Does the Scar Revision Surgery work..??

Yes indeed, at Richardson's the scar revision procedures do make the scars disappear and make the surface more pleasing. We generally combine surgical and no- surgical techniques to achieve an even scar-free appearance. And this effective method gradually refines and fades out the scar giving natural scar-free skin.

Duration of the Scar Revision Procedure..??

Scar revision procedures are usually done under local anesthesia which is a daycare procedure. Patients can resume their normal activities from the next day. A patient needs to stay back only if there is a need for skin grafting and so which is used in repairing contractures.

How does the Scar Revision Surgery wound heal…??

Healing of a scar revision surgery is uneventful like any other minor surgery. The initial healing phase may include localized swelling, discoloration, and discomfort which start subsiding after 72 hours. Healing of the surgical site may take 2 weeks to heal completely and a few weeks later the scar just fades away with a normal-looking skin.
