Laceration on the lip
A
patient named Dani 51 years, female reported to Richardson dental and craniofacial hospital with a history of road traffic accident. When patient
reported to us, her upper lip was bleeding and was complaining of mobile teeth.
On examination it was found that there was laceration present on the upper lip
and few teeth were fractured and mobile. Patient had severe difficulty in
chewing or drinking and her occlusion was also dearranged. A advanced Cone Beam
CT Scan was taken for the patient to see radiographically is there any fracture
or the status of damaged teeth. clinical findings co-related well with the CBCT
findings and there were 1 fractured teeth, and 3 mobile anterior teeth.
All
the primary care was given, patient was admitted and fluids and antibiotics were
given. After few of the primary required blood investigations splinting of the
mobile teeth with the help of arch bar fixation, correction of occlusion ,
extraction of unrestorable fractured tooth and closure of the lacerated wound
on upper lip was done. The teeth involved in trauma were later planned for root
canal treatment after the surgery in subsequent follow up visits.
Post
operatively patient achieved a satisfactory occlusion and was able to eat and
chew properly. Her aesthetic concerns were also met as her lip healed well with
a minimal scar. Patient is being advised for prosthetic crown to make the teeth
functionally and esthetically more sound.
