Complex palatoplasty

In cleft and craniofacial cases every patient is a new entity as we met this time. A case of cleft lip and palate with craniofacialanomaly had a velopharyngeal incompetence, with a rare trifid uvula. The patients clinical examination was done by the head of our hospital Dr SunilRichardson and a worldwide renowned craniofacial surgeon Dr. Phillipe Pellerin who is visiting our hospital for craniofacial cases. This case was diagnosed as a case of trifid uvula and speech disorder due to it.

The necessary radiological and blood investigations were done for the patient and the planning was done for the treatment. The operation was done in general anesthesia and a very new complex palatoplasty was planned in which a double z plasty was done the palatal muscles were reoriented. Basically the idea of surgery was to correct the trifid uvula and to orient the muscles backwards and downwards to decrease the velopharyngeal incompetence. The same was achieved and now patient is on regular speech therapy and the speech had remarkably improved for the patient. So the correct planning for the case had achieved satisfactory results for patient and surgeons themselves.
